Reliance Protectron |
In 1987, Groupe Vidéotron Ltée., acquired a few companies with the intention of using its cable network for purposes other than television broadcasting. The new subsidiary was incorporated on December 3, 1988 and headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, under the name Protectron. This event marked the birth of a Canadian success story.
Throughout the 1990s, Protectron enjoyed rapid residential and commercial sales growth and acquired a number of security companies. It also extended its network into Ontario with the acquisition of Security 24 Monitoring Network. By late 1999, Protectron's subscriber base exceeded 100,000 customers. In 2001, Protectron was acquired by Wellspring Capital Management LLC and became the largest privately owned Canadian electronic security company.
In July 2002, Protectron made a significant acquisition with the purchase of Protection One, the Canadian subsidiary of the second-largest security company in the United States. The acquisition dramatically increased Protectron’s customer base with an additional 40,000 subscribers, primarily in Ontario and British Columbia. It expanded company operations with new offices in Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver, thereby making Protectron part of the elite group of national security providers in Canada.
Since June 2005, the business has been part of Reliance Comfort Limited Partnership. Reliance assumes the financial, service and asset risk on essential home and business products and services to make them affordable and efficient and to provide its customers with peace of mind. In addition to security services, Reliance offers Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) products and services to over 1.5 million residential and commercial customers.
In June 2007, Reliance purchased VOXCOM Security Systems, thereby substantially increasing its security-services base from 200,000 customers to over 350,000. This acquisition also enabled Reliance to improve its national security-services coverage in Central and Western Canada.
Founded in 1989, VOXCOM was a leading national provider of security-monitoring services in Canada, servicing over 122,000 residential and commercial customers in Alberta, B.C. and Ontario.
Today, our business is firmly grounded on two strong brands with track records of growth and excellent customer service. In July 2008, Reliance Protectron Security Services was adopted as the brand name to define our security-services business as a whole. The name reflects the company’s goal of achieving one common view for customers, thereby creating one strong brand name recognized across the country.
Reliance Protectron Security Services is now one of Canada’s leading security organizations. It employs over 900 qualified professionals who specialize in the sales, installation, servicing and monitoring of electronic security systems for more than 350,000 residential, commercial, industrial and wholesale subscribers nationwide.
With sales of over $125 million, Reliance Protectron continues to post excellent growth and expand its line of products and services. It offers subscribers a full suite of security and related monitoring products and services, including intrusion, smoke detection, personal and medical emergency, and environmental monitoring as well as other specialized services. Reliance Protectron provides monitoring services 24 hours a day and 365 days a year from its four monitoring centres located in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa and Vancouver.
